OneCoffee™: The World's 1st Biodegradable, Fair-Trade, Organic K-Cup Compatible Single-Serve Cup
Canterbury Coffee, a leading global roaster and supplier of specialty coffees and related beverages since 1981, introduces OneCoffee™, the World’s 1st biodegradable, fair-trade, organic K-Cup compatible cup for use with Keurig coffee makers. OneCoffee is Organic single serve coffee made with 100% strictly hard-bean, organic and fair-trade Arabica coffees.
Established in 1981, driven by a spirit of innovation, Canterbury Coffee has steadily grown to become one of Canada’s leading roasters. It is a journey filled with purpose—continuously seeking out new opportunities to improve, to grow, to adapt. They are serious about their coffee and of upholding their reputation for producing only the finest quality products—including the OneCoffee line.
“Previously we referred to K-Cups as the inconvenient convenience due to the amount of waste generated from these time-saving gems. The K-Cup exploded onto the market but consumers have remained deeply concerned about disposal of the cups. OneCoffee offers a solution to that problem by creating the world’s first biodegradable, organic and fair trade single serve coffee,” said Derek Perkins, Sr. Marketing Manager at Canterbury Coffee. “Not only is OneCoffee eco-friendly, but the taste is also critical. As with all Canterbury products, we use only 100% strictly hard-bean, organic Arabica coffees with OneCoffee.”
OneCoffee’s soft bottomed cups use 40% less plastic than K-Cups, are 90% compostable/biodegradable, and packaging is carbon neutral. In addition, all coffees are fair-trade and organic for sustainability at origin. Standard K-Cups are made of plastic integrated with a coffee filter, coffee grounds, and plastic foil top with no easy way to separate the components for recycling.
OneCoffee offers a variety of flavors that include Breakfast Blend, French Roast, Decaf Dark, Columbian, Peruvian, Sumatran, Ethiopian and a Variety Pack. All blends are compatible with K-Cup style brewers and are individually wrapped for freshness and safety. OneCoffee is also perfect for those who are Vegan, Halal, Kosher and are BPA Free.

Choice Organic Teas and Bastyr University
Team up to Launch Wellness Teas*
Choice Organic Teas, the first exclusively organic tea crafter in the United States and first in the country to introduce Fair Trade Certified™ teas, announced earlier this year that it has partnered with Bastyr University to develop and launch a new line of flavorful, certified organic Wellness Teas*. This marks the first time that the renowned natural health university has collaborated with a consumer brand on product development and offered its logo for display on the product.
The Wellness Teas* are a new line of certified organic, functional teas specially formulated by a master herbalist and faculty member in Botanical Medicine and Ayurvedic Sciences at Bastyr University. The teas were designed to support healthy body functions and enhance wellness*, while maintaining Choice Organic Teas’ reputation for great tasting, perfectly balanced teas. The blends are classified as Herbal Dietary Supplements (HDS), indicating that the product has met FDA standards for quality and testing. It also creates opportunities to merchandise the teas in the supplement section in addition to the tea aisle in retail stores. As with Choice Organic Teas’ other products, all of the Wellness Teas* are certified organic by QAI for USDA Organic certification.
Offered at an affordable suggested retail price of $4.69, the inaugural varieties include Easy Digest*, Mental Focus*, Breathing Space*, Rest Assured*, Regularity*, Throat Cozy*, Simply Detox*, and Energy Boost*. The 8 SKU’s feature 30 different active, certified organic botanical herbs that are recognized and used for their health supporting qualities*. With the exception of Regularity*, the Wellness Teas* have been formulated for daily use.
“This unique partnership combines Choice Organic Teas’ expertise in crafting, sourcing, blending and packaging the world’s finest ingredients with Bastyr’s expertise in the natural health sciences to craft a line of delicious teas that support everyday health and well-being*,” says Anne-Marie Phillips, Head of Sales and Marketing for Choice Organic Teas. Phillips further explains that the partnership is a natural fit for the two established Pacific Northwest institutions and their shared commitment to a healthier world. “This collaboration provides Choice Organic Teas with a very unique opportunity and we are proud to associate with the premier natural health arts and sciences institution in the country.”
“With our shared values and Seattle roots, Bastyr University has long been aware of Choice Organic Teas and was attracted to its depth of experience as a manufacturer of a trusted, popular, and quality brand,” says Tim Callahan, Senior Vice President and Provost of Bastyr University. “We felt that this partnership would be a wonderful way to promote awareness of natural health and botanicals, giving us national exposure to promote our educational programs as well as the practice of natural medicine.”
A portion of the proceeds from the new line will help advance the field and practice of natural medicine by directly supporting the Bastyr University Student Scholarship Fund. *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. New Magnum Taste of the Exotics Offers Passport to the World in Four Bold Specialty Coffee Blends
Magnum Taste of the Exotics: the name alone evokes rich, flavorful adventures that awaken the senses. Magnum Coffee Roastery’s Magnum Taste of the Exotics Coffee, debuting this month in California, brings to the global palates of true coffee connoisseurs four new 100% Arabica specialty coffee blends that will make them feel like world-class travelers without ever leaving the comfort of their home. And lucky us! We got a chance to try some...
Created to take international coffee to a new plateau of quality, flavor and bold originality, Magnum Taste of the Exotics enables adventurous California coffee aficionados to savor the cool, clean flavor of Jamaican Blue Mountain, or enjoy a nutty and bright Kona Hawaiian blend. They can meander through a tropical Rainforest or take a safari through South America, Central America and Africa with Organic Fogcutter, a smoky and satisfying San Francisco blend, the only mainland-inspired flavor in the group of four specialty Arabica coffees.
Now available up and down the coast in all Bristol Farms locations, Magnum Taste of the Exotics are packaged in invitingly bright and adventurous four-corner sealed bags. Each distinctive blend features a toucan, lion, tiger or leopard that practically leaps off the shelf amid an otherwise subdued field of coffee packaging. Magnum Taste of the Exotics’ Jamaican Blue Mountain Blend and Kona Blend are packaged ground (12 oz.). Organic Rainforest Blend and Organic Fogcutter debut in whole bean (10 oz.) and are both certified organic by Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA) International and USDA. With an MSRP of $9.99, all Magnum Exotics packaging features one-way valves to assure the specialty Arabica coffee is packaged after roasting so the freshness, fragrance and flavor of the select beans stay in the bag.
Magnum Taste of the Exotics is the first self-branded line developed by Magnum Coffee Roastery, the nation’s premier supplier of specialty private label blends. Already popular in the company’s home state of Michigan and now making its debut in California, Magnum Taste of the Exotics is poised to roll-out in other states and eventually nationwide this year and throughout 2014.
Magnum Taste of the Exotics features the most exquisite aromas, bodies and flavors from beans grown only in the area between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. Known as the “Coffee Belt,” this region boasts bean-perfect conditions of moderate sunshine and rain, steady temperatures around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and rich, porous soil.
Specially selected Arabica coffee beans are grown between 4,000 and 6,000 feet above sea level. Picked beans are meticulously graded and separated by bean size and density. Magnum employs the ancient cupping technique of judging coffee based on smell and taste analysis to ensure all beans meet the highest standards before roasting.
Each gourmet Magnum Taste of the Exotics blend is sampled and hand-chosen, with beans sourced direct from farmers and co-ops from around the world. As a premiere private-label supplier, Magnum is one of the few coffee roasteries to own a trading company, Café Trading, with time-honored relationships spanning the globe: Central America, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Africa, India and Indonesia.
Magnum Taste of the Exotics are all Fair Trade Products, committed to fair price, direct trade, community development, fair labor conditions, democratic and transparent organizations, and environmental sustainability.
“At its best, coffee can not only soothe our souls and awaken our senses, but transport us to other times, cultures and locales,” said Kevin B. Kihnke, President of Magnum Coffee Roastery. “The richness of the world can be seen through the many flavors, customs and food pairings of coffee, which is why Magnum Taste of the Exotics was specially created to offer discerning connoisseurs a journey to exotic lands they would never otherwise experience through traditional home or coffee shop blends.”
We loved the coffee from the moment we opened the box and were hit by the amazing aroma coming from the shipping carton. We tried both the Kona Blend and the Organic Fogcutter. We were split down the middle between which one we liked best, although both received high marks from the elated taste-testers! With a suggested selling price of $9.99 a bag, this is a great price for a high quality and delicious coffee.

Runa Named Among the Best of 2013 at The SofiAwards
Runa and their Amazonian “Super Leaf,” guayusa (pronounced “gwhy-you-sa”) won their first sofi™ Award earlier this month from the Specialty Food Association at the Summer Fancy Food Show. The SofiAwards, which has honored the most outstanding specialty foods since 1972, awarded the beverage company with “Best USDA-Certified Organic Product” for their Runa Hibiscus-Berry Guayusa Tea.
The bottled tea took home one of 32 awards presented at last night’s festivities. The award was presented to Co-Founder and Co-CEO, Dan MacCombie at a ceremony held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. Runa’s Traditional Guayusa Boxed Tea was a sofi silver finalist in the Best Hot Beverage Category.
With a record number of entries, Co-Founder and Co-CEO Tyler Gage was pleased with the product’s results. “This is our first sofi Award, and we are very proud to win best certified organic product. It is further testament to the popularity of this little Amazonian plant called guayusa.”
The Brooklyn-based start-up company introduced guayusa to the United States in 2008 and wasfounded by entrepreneurs Tyler Gage and Dan MacCombiein their senior year of college. Runa has since created the world’s first supply chain for guayusa, supporting more than 2,000 farmers in Ecuador and purchasing the leaf directly from the indigenouspeople.
All of the Runa products – boxed tea, bottled tea, loose-leaf tea and clean energy drink – contain the guayusa leaf that offers clear, focused energy and health benefits such as immune support, memory, and overall brain function all while naturally containing as much caffeine as coffee and twice the antioxidants of green tea. All of the products are Certified Fair Trade and USADA-Certified Organic. Runa is readily available nationwide in over 4,000 locations. For more information, please visit www.runa.org.
