Barista Competition Comes to Northeast This November Atlantic City Coffee and Tea Festival Will Host

Starfish Junction Productions, long-time producer of the Coffee and Tea Festival NYC and the upcoming Coffee and Tea Festival Atlantic City, recently shared the news that the fall Festival in Atlantic City, NJ will host the United States Barista Championship (USBC), Northeast Competition. The Championship is governed by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA)—the world’s coffee authority and the largest coffee trade association. The Coffee and Tea Festival will be held on November 3-4, 2012 at Bally’s at 1900 Pacific Ave., Atlantic City, NJ 08401. The event is open to the public and the trade. The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) is the governing body of the United States Barista Championship–the Licensed National Body for World Coffee Events (WCE). SCAA's United States Barista Championship and Regional Competitions, through their focus on excellence, encourage and recognize professional achievement in the art and skill of espresso beverage preparation and service. At the Regional Competitions, baristas dazzle four sensory judges, two technical judges and one head judge as they prepare to serve four espressos, four cappuccinos and four signature beverages during a 15-minute race against the clock. Tickets for the Coffee & Tea Festival Atlantic City are $20 each and include sampling from the international lineup of coffee and tea exhibitors as well as attendance at a variety of classes/seminars. There is also a variety of fee-based classes that require advance registration. These fee-based classes include topics as varied as pairing coffee and chocolate, pairing tea and cheese, and understanding East Asian Tea & Culture. The Tea Bloggers’ Choice Awards (TBCA) is an independent award in which nominees and winners are determined by members of the Association of Tea Bloggers and their readers, not industry insiders, to celebrate favorite teas of the online tea marketplace!

Winners are announced once per year. Winning companies receive a formal statement of their tea having won a particular category and an official winner’s seal/logo that can be used in association with that product.

Tea Master Training Slated for Aiken, SC

Aspiring tea aficionados will be gathering in Aiken, S.C., in early November to take part in the American Tea Masters Association's second east coast Tea Mastery Certification Course™ for achieving the prestigious Certified Tea Master™ designation once the training program and final examination are successfully completed. The two-part program includes an initial 3-Day Comprehensive Tea Mastery Course held on-site at the Hampton Inn Aiken from November 7th - 9th, followed by a 14-Week Tea Mastery Tasting Course involving home study, numerous tea evaluations, and weekly group online conference sessions for sharing experiences and answering questions. The program offers the high level of focus and support needed to gain the competence and confidence to serve as a tea master or tea sommelier at any distinguished restaurant, hotel or tea court, or start one's own successful enterprise.

Registrants will experience some of the most exquisite and often rarest loose-leaf teas from around the world. The training will also include: Health Benefits of Tea; Starting or Expanding a Tea Business; Attracting and Retaining Customers; Effective Use of Social Media and Press Releases; Web Site Concepts that Work; and Valuable Guest Service Skills.
